Emergency Medical Technician - Basic

The EFR-24 program is designed to provide the necessary tools to recognize and manage emergencies.

EFR-24 includes a complete Standard First Aid curriculum and certification which is recognized by the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board and meets the requirements of regulation 1101. Advanced First Aid includes CPR for an adult, child and infant along with easy to learn First Aid skills. Advanced first aid tools are introduced including oral airways, suction devices, cervical collars, back-boards, Kendricks Extrication Devices, defibrillation and oxygen administration as well as the use of Bag Valve Mask resuscitators.

This course is geared for first aiders who may be working at a worksite that employs nurses or first responders providing the first aider with the opportunity to assist and integrate into an emergency response on-site.

First Responder

Duration – 40h

First Responder

The First Responder course is a 40-hour medical responder course for workplace responders at small to large worksites.

It is ideal for traditional first responders (fire service, police) and non-traditional first responders (security personnel, lifeguards, etc.) The course includes a complete Standard First Aid curriculum and certification which is recognized by the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board and meets the requirements of regulation 1101.

First Responder includes CPR for an adult, child and infant along with easy to learn First Aid skills. Advanced first aid tools are introduced including oral and nasal airways, suction devices, cervical collars, back-boards, Kendricks Extrication Devices, defibrillation and oxygen administration as well as the use of Bag Valve Mask resuscitators. This program also includes an introduction to ambulance operations as well as more advanced anatomy and physiology instruction.

Emergency Medical Responder (PAC 2020)

Emergency Medical Responder

The Emergency Medical Responder course is a 150-hour advanced responder program that meets the guidelines of the Canadian Medical Association and the Paramedic Association of Canada’s National Occupational Competency Profile (NOCP PAC 2020).

Ideally suited for workplace responders in high-risk environments, EMR participants will develop a strong understanding of the human body in health, illness or injury. Candidates will develop the skills necessary to assess patients, make critical decisions about care, access emergency services and package a patient for transport–thereby minimizing the time required for EMS services to be on-scene.

In some Canadian provinces, an Emergency Medical Responder may be employed by ambulance services.
